Riversiders could get a new official tasked with investigating criminal conduct in the government. The inspector general would be elected to a four-year term.

Committee Vice Chair Alia Rodriguez said the panel considered potential positions of city controller, inspector general and chief accountability officer, and settled on inspector general.
“It has to have some teeth,” she said.
... Council Member Ronaldo Fierro said the presence of such a position could increase trust in city government.
“We’re living through an era of … extreme distrust of government, even at the local government level,” he said.
